Poudre Valley REA

Net Metering and Grid Interconnection

Poudre Valley REA allows most renewable energy generation systems, like solar PV panels, to be connected to the power grid. This is called a grid inter-tie or inter-connection. Net Metering allows excess power generated on the customer side of the meter to be sold back or used to offset electric usage.

Systems must meet the Poudre Valley REA Interconnection Standards and projects must be approved by Poudre Valley REA before they are connected to the electric grid.

Residential customers with systems under 25 kW may apply by submitting a Residential Parallel Generation application. Before you purchase any equipment:
1. Call the Poudre Valley REA Member Services staff at (970) 226-1234 to discuss your plans.
2. Review the Poudre Valley REA Parallel Generating Facilities application to see if your planned system meets the Interconnection Standards;
3. Check with the building and zoning departments in the county in which you live to request a building permit and/or an electrical permit for an electrical addition; and
4. Check with your home owner's association.
