College Scholarships

23 scholarships are available through Poudre Valley REA for high school seniors and college undergraduate students. Twenty scholarships will be awarded in the amount of $2,000, one for $1,000 and two for $500.

Applicants are scored based on 3 categories: 

  • Academics - Scoring based on academic achievement in school.
  • Well-rounded - Based on an overall achievements of extra-curricular activities and grades.
  • Helping-Hand - Scored on financial need of student.

 

Who Is Eligible? 

  • High school seniors and college undergraduate students who have been accepted for admission or are currently attending any U.S. college, university or community college. 
  • Applicants must be dependents of parents (or consumers themselves) who currently receive electric service from Poudre Valley REA.
  • Previous winners may reapply if they still qualify. 

 

How Do Students Enter?

  • Fill out the scholarship application and include the following:
    • Most recent academic transcript.
    • Copy of college entrance examination if high school senior (ACT or SAT scores).
    • A two-page essay outlining achievements and career goals (1,000 words or more). Please include information about your extra-curricular activities, school clubs and societies etc and include information about your involvement in civic, community, charitable or community clubs or societies.
    • Two letters of recommendation, one from a school faculty member (or recent/current employer) and one from someone you have worked with or for in the community. Include full name and address of these individuals. 
    • For Helping Hand Scholarship Application Only: A photo copy of the IRS tax return page showing the applicable Adjusted Gross Income (AGI). Please cross-out any reference to Social Security numbers or other confidential information. Your application and all of its contents are treated as confidential information by PVREA and will not be shared or used except for this scholarship selection process.
    • A photo of yourself. Winners will be feature in the Colorado Country Life magazine and online.

 

How Will Winners Be Selected?

Poudre Valley REA will score each applicant based on the following criteria, and will award scholarships in each category:

  • Academics - Scoring based on academic achievement in school.
  • Well-rounded - Scored based on an overall achievements of extra-curricular activities and grades.
  • Helping-Hand - Scored on financial need of student.

Applications are reviewed to make sure that 1) each is complete, 2) the applicant is eligible, 3) the required documentation has been submitted, and 4) the deadline has been met. By submitting the completed scholarship application, qualified students will be entered in all scholarship categories. 

 

Deadline

February 17, 2017

No applications will be accepted with a postmark later than the due date.
