Elise Dunning, daughter of PVREA members Brian and Allison Dunning, recently attended the Cooperative Youth Leadership Camp in July. Over 100 high school students from other electric cooperatives in Colorado, Kansas, Oklahoma and Wyoming spent a week in cabins at camp near Steamboat Springs, Colorado.
The students learned about the democratic, community-oriented principles that are the foundation of electric cooperatives. They also visited a power plant and related operations, which is shown in the picture above. And of course, the students had fun white water rafting, put on a talent show and made life-long friends.
“Camp was great. Every day we did something new and I learned a lot from all of the speakers during the week. I got to create memories with new friends and I had a lot of first time experiences. When we went to the power plant during camp, I learned a lot more about how electricity is made and distributed throughout our country and the world,” Elise commented.
