Across the nation scammers are attempting to pose as utility employees to gain private customer or member information. A Poudre Valley Rural Electric Association (PVREA) member reported a scam on Monday, June 29, and the Cooperative is warning members of frauds and scammers.
The scammer phoned a PVREA member, identifying themselves as “Poudre Valley REA” The scammer posed as a PVREA employee, telling the member a payment must be immediately sent through a bill pay service at a local grocery store.
PVREA employees never initiate a phone call to a member asking for any personal or credit card information. Phone calls from PVREA to delinquent accounts is a courtesy notice call by recording only. If a member is unsure, hang up the phone and call back PVREA at 1-800-432-1012.
PVREA members are urged to alert the local law enforcement of PVREA if they’re contacted by a scammer.
